FULL LIST: Five new rules for US visa applicants in Nigeria

Starting April 22, 2025, all US visa applicants in Abuja and Lagos must follow these five new rules:

1. Bring the Right DS-160 Form

You must bring a DS-160 visa form with a barcode number that starts with “AA00” and matches the one used to book your appointment.

If it doesn’t match, you won’t be allowed in or interviewed.

2. Go to the Right Location

You must attend your interview at the same location (Abuja or Lagos) you chose when filling out the DS-160 form.

3. Check Your DS-160 Early

At least two weeks before your interview, make sure the DS-160 barcode number matches the one in your appointment confirmation.

4. Fix Any Mistakes Early

If your barcode number is wrong, log into your AVITS account at least 10 days before the interview and send a support ticket to fix it.

5. Reschedule If Rejected

If you’re turned away because of a wrong barcode, fix the problem and book a new appointment.

If your visa fee has expired, you’ll need to pay again before rebooking.
