Empowering Africa’s Future: The Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program at UC Berkeley

The University of California, UC Berkeley, in partnership with the Mastercard Foundation, offers a transformative opportunity for young Africans aiming to shape socio-economic change. This global network connects educational institutions and nonprofits, united by the belief that education drives social and economic progress. Through the Mastercard Foundation Scholars Program, UC Berkeley aims to nurture ethical, entrepreneurial, and impactful leaders who will bring meaningful transformation to Africa. Since its inception, the program has committed over $1.2 billion to support the education of more than 40,000 young Africans.

Bridging Opportunity Gaps for Africa’s Youth

The Mastercard Foundation’s Young Africa Works initiative is committed to creating dignified job opportunities for 30 million young people, especially women, by 2030. Through financial, social, and academic support, the Scholars Program enables young Africans with a vision for change to access quality education, paving the way for their contributions back home.
